JOB SUMMARY:

The Special Education Teacher position at Children’s Square USA is special for many reasons.  While providing an education program for youths who need an alternative setting to be successful, you are allotted the autonomy to be creative, design your own curriculum as well as enjoy a built-in planning period. You will have an allocated budget for supplies, incentives, and field trips to better assist with the development, evaluation and instruction of students. In addition, you will have the support and assistance of youth workers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide an appropriate educational program and instruction for students as developed through each IEP, including a transition plan.  Develop and monitor measurable objectives for the IEP.
  2. Develop curriculum, adjust and adapt curriculum as needed and create instructional materials to support the curriculum.
  3. Serve as a case coordinator and home room teacher in the areas of: IEP Intake meeting; annual IEP review; three-year re-evaluation process.
  4. Promote a positive learning atmosphere that enhances a learning environment for all students and a positive team environment.
  5. Communicate in a professional and effective manner with teachers, administrators, residential staff, students, support personnel, parent(s)/guardian(s), and professionals from other community schools and agencies. Prepare reports that communicate student progress to staff, parent(s)/guardian(s), and other professionals as appropriate.
  6. Maintain pertinent information in student records.  Treat student information confidentially and disseminate it according to agency policies and procedures.
  7. Provide initial and ongoing training to the Paraeducator relative to the Paraeducator position.
  8. Participate in student evaluations through appropriate testing and other activities.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with Special Education Endorsements for teaching Behaviorally Disordered students.

  • Must possess an Iowa Educator's License with credentials allowing placement in a special education setting.

  • Experience with curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student behavior management.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record 

  • If required and authorized to drive a personal auto on agency business, you must have automobile insurance that meets agency policy.

  • Ability to interact with clients and children with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics in the service population.

  • Learning Strategist I with behavior experience or Learning Strategist II (preferred)
