Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented Wetland Scientist in our Conshohocken, Pennsylvania office . The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary, team-oriented environment that provides career growth opportunities within AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) East Mid-Atlantic Team. This position will include performing environmental field assessments and reporting for wetland/stream delineations, invasive and rare, threatened, and endangered species (T&E) surveys, as well as wetland mitigation and/or monitoring. This team primarily works on projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio.

This position is expected to begin in June 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the ecological lead in performing stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, and other ecological surveys.

  • Assisting ecological leads with process field data and development/originating ecological assessment reports.

  • Assisting with coordination of various governmental agencies regarding ecological survey protocols, reporting standards, or endangered and threatened species coordination.

  • Reviewing desktop information to complete environmental impact assessments.

  • Working with the ecological lead to become familiar with our field survey equipment, data forms and other data collection and reporting tools.

  • Conducting field surveys to identify and classify wetland types.

  • Preparing wetland delineation reports and maps.

  • Assisting in the development of wetland mitigation plans.

  • Participating in environmental impact assessments related to wetlands.

  • Collaborating with project managers and other team members on wetland-related projects.

  • Staying current with relevant environmental regulations and wetland science advancements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.

  • The position requires fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight).

  • Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Knowledgeable in using Trimble GPS survey units, tablets, and other data collection tools or similar survey equipment.

  • ESRI and/or ARCGIS (ArcMap and/or ArcPro) experience and ability to create figures or perform analysis on location data sets.

  • Background knowledge on fauna and flora identification, understanding of USACE wetland determination procedures, and other applicable survey experiences for environmental services.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and technical writing.

  • Safety training (i.e., OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours)

  • High degree of self-motivation and ability to work both independently and in a team setting

  • Team player that demonstrates professionalism and accountability.

  • College transcripts with GPA and writing sample.

  • Travel is required for this position.
