We seek an experienced Civil Engineering Leader to lead our civil engineering teams in Omaha, NE, and Lincoln, NE. Our teams focus on the private sector in Residential and Commercial Land Development. As the leader in this position, it is responsible for planning, managing, and monitoring the engineering department's functions. To oversee multiple engineering teams, processes, budgets, timelines, and make necessary adjustments to successfully complete all civil engineering projects

Description

 

The Civil Engineering Department Manager will play a key role in the organization's overall success. Will align and guide the overall strategy of the department and approach to the existing and future market space.  We seek a candidate with proven ability to lead, mentor, and coach. A candidate who will identify themselves as a leader of engineers first and an engineer second.  A person with a self-motivated attitude, able to multitask, and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.

 

In addition, this person will:  

  • Communicate company goals and expectations to the department
  • Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs 
  • Hire, train, and supervise project managers and engineering staff members, including but not limited to being engaged in external organizations to aid in brand awareness
  • Collaborate with internal staff to create processes, standards, and procedures for engineering staff and other team members to follow
  • Communicate and collaborate with other internal department managers to improve communication, execution, and quality control
  • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes
  • Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible engineering experience
  • Five (5) years of management experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer 
  • Must possess advanced problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a non-technical audience
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering management, business administration or related degree
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska
  • Experience presenting at public events and directly to customers
  • Held responsibility for departmental profit & loss
