Senior Youth Care Worker

Teaches skills and monitors youth behavior according to an individualized service plan. Provides support and mentoring to Youth Care Workers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Provides safe and effective services

  • Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.

  • Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.

  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.

  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Provides administrative support and mentors Youth Care Workers

  • Receives referral calls and makes appropriate recommendations to supervisor for placement.

  • Completes documentation for youth admission, discharge, and incident reports Interacts with program consumers.

  • May provide consultation with youth's family on Boys Town continuum of services.

  • May assist in the coordination and/or transition of youth to services within the Boys Town continuum or to other community services.

  • May engage families and provide assessment of needs in order to make referrals as needed.

  • Trains and mentors Youth Care Workers as outlined in the Youth Care Worker's Staff Development Plan.

  • Models appropriate relationships with youth and staff.

Participates in the supervision and training of youth

  • Assesses and monitors youth skills and progress to determine skill development needs and priorities.

  • Uses the Boys Town Model to teach and monitor behaviors and skills according to individualized service plans.

  • Provides input on Service Planning for youth.

  • Monitors activities and maintains a safe living and learning environment for youth.

  • Attends supervision, staff, and shift transition meetings.

  • Observes and participates in mediation and planning conferences with youth and their families.

  • Attends to youth medical and physical conditions as needed.

  • Utilizes Boys Town vehicle to transport youth to and from school, appointments, and outings.

  • Monitors environment and ensures safe and secure conditions for youth.

  • Ensures safety in accordance with policies and procedures including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.

  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to build and sustain trust to facilitate successful, professional relationships.

  • Ability to quickly make decisions in sensitive and sometimes critical areas and to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum 21 years of age required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with at risk youth required.
