Position Summary:
The Academic Success Consultant for the Phoenix campus is responsible for development and implementation of academic success programs for occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy and physician assistant students. This position is a shared position between the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions (SPAHP) and the School of Medicine Physician Assistant program. This position provides individualized remediation and academic skill enhancement for students facing probation and/or course remediation.
Essential Functions:
· Provide individual academic success consultation/coaching for academic skill development, time management, study skills, test taking strategies, etc.
· Serve as liaison and consultant to faculty, both in their roles as instructors and academic advisors
· Work with faculty to proactively identify struggling students.
· Implements academic success programs for students (individual academic coaching, seminars or workshop, guest presentations, etc.)
· Collaborates in the development and delivery of faculty development opportunities related to student learning.
· Administers and interprets learning preference inventories, learning and study strategy inventories, and other student assessments.
· Exam proctoring as needed
· Serve on school and university committees.
· Serves as reference person for student resources, referrals, and services (e.g., financial aid, emergency loan, scholarship issues, student accessibility services, student counseling services, etc.)
· Assists as needed in organizing School events (i.e. orientation week, white coat ceremony, graduate recognition and hooding)
Academic Success Consultant – SPAHP ONLY
· Assist in the creation of individualized curricular plans for off-track students
· Teach up to 3 credit hours per year
· Assist in the coordination of tutoring programs for first-year courses
· Collaborate in the recruitment, training and supervision of tutors
Academic Success Consultant – PA ONLY
· Provides counseling and support for students studying for exams & assessments
· Maintains Blueline (LMS) content for student success as it relates to academics
· Provide leadership for scheduling and recruitment of proctors for students requiring testing accommodations.
Education & Experience:
· Master's Degree in Counseling, College Counseling and Student Development or Student Affairs
· 3+ years' experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of higher education operations
· Interpersonal/human relations skills to build relationships with students and create collaborative relationships with other professionals
· Written and verbal communication skills
· Knowledge of adult learning theory and educational psychology preferred
· Organizational, management, and collaborative skills
· Counseling/advising skills to assess and create interventions with a diverse population
· Teaching skills including ability to conduct small groups and develop and deliver presentations and educational programs
· Ability to relate well with students
· Must be accessible and flexible in student interactions
· Ability to maintain confidentiality
· Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel etc.).
