Licensed Journeyman Commercial Electrician

We are looking for an experienced Licensed Journeyman Commercial Electrician who will be responsible for installing, repairing, electrical troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical components and infrastructure in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Our Electrician is critical to the university’s success. They are responsible for keeping the university operations 24x7 while staying apprised to the national Electric Code and other relevant legislation, building, and safety regulations.

The role will require availability for on-call duty which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, in case of emergencies.

  • Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies and maintains electrical/electronic systems, circuits, equipment, components, and fixtures.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of electrical and emergency systems. Participates in ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs and implements strategies into their daily work.
  • Complete computer-required tasks as needed and other duties as assigned including working weekends and during high academic times if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master electrician or journeyman electrician certification or Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) apprentice registration.
  • 2-3 years of residential, commercial, or industrial electrical experience.
  • Experience with new builds, renovations, and historical restoration projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code, building codes, safety regulations, and safety practices
  • General knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, Life/Safety Systems, boilers, chillers, emergency power systems, UPS systems, pumps, motors, VFD's, and Energy Management Systems
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and rough drawings.
  • Successful candidates will be a self-starter with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong focus on customer service and creating positive interactions with internal and external clients.
  • Must be highly motivated with high energy that excels in unique challenges and thrives under pressure efficiency.
  • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Work with low, and high-pressure voltage. 
  • Ability to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter).
  • Ability to be “on-call” on a rotational schedule.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during peak times as well as rotating on-call.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a current and valid driver's license for a minimum of 6 months, with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years.

Additional Notes:

  • This job is mission essential personnel and will be needed to work as required. The work week may include weekends, holidays, and after-hours if needed.
