Creighton University in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a Research Assistant II for the Hong Lab.

The lab studies cellular mechanisms of mouse auditory neurons under healthy and pathological conditions, and utilizes multiple techniques including patch clamp, optogenetics, fluorescence imaging, viral injections, auditory brainstem response (ABR), RNA-seq and computational modeling.

This is a new lab at Creighton and this role will assist PI to build essential electrophysiology and molecular biology setups for experiments. Other responsibilities of this job include daily mouse handling, genotyping, ABR and noise exposure system usage, molecular biology, and histology.

Key Responsibilities

Involves significant lab management tasks, including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, routine cleaning, stocking supplies, and more.
Ideal for students about to complete their undergraduate degree or is a recent graduate and those applying for graduate school in neuroscience.
Assist in ordering materials and supplies, maintaining detailed records, analyzing data, and documenting results. Must be comfortable working both independently and alongside other researchers.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Biology or related field required.
2+ years of experience working on an independent project in a research lab environment.
Rodent handling experience, molecular biology, patch clamp and/or electrophysiology. Demonstrated success completing research projects. Proven ability to conduct research experiments.
Familiarity with experimental design, including replicates, controls and reproducibility.
Excellent reading and writing skills.
Ability to learn new methods quickly and work independently.
Fluent in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Experience with MATLAB is ideal.
Must be organized, reliable, self-sufficient, and goal-oriented.
