The Educational Opportunity Center is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator with strong technology skills to teach Adult Education in-person classes that prepare students to pass their High School Equivalency exams (GED) and transition to college and/or career.
This Part-Time, Temporary position will work about 10 hours/week. Must be able to work during the day.
The primary function of the GED Instructor is to provide GED instruction to EOC participants 19 and older. Design and implement educational activities using a variety of teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals. Instructors are responsible for providing a classroom environment that is equitable and inclusive as well as implementing instruction that considers a variety of learning styles, facilitates active learning, and offers strategies for successfully passing standardized exams.
Responsibilities
Duties include creating and implementing a GED curriculum, instructing a cohort of at least 15 adult learners in language arts, science, social studies and mathematical content, monitoring and assessing student progress on an ongoing basis, participating in GED orientations, creating Individual Learning Plans with students, collecting, recording, and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner and participating in staff meetings.
May also include: Creating projects designed to enhance lectures.Reading and staying abreast of current topics in education. Integrating competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans. Utilizing curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served. Working with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met. Tutoring students on an individual basis.
This is a grant-funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Continuing with the theme of providing service to others, the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is one of five federally funded TRIO programs hosted by Creighton University. The EOC targets individuals ages 19 and over, who are low-income and potential first-generation college students. The primary goal of this program is to provide information and support to adults seeking to continue their education.
