The High School Drivers Education Behind the Wheel (BTW) instructor will provide behind the wheel experience for students by completing the required practicum component of the high school driverâ??s education class. This employee will instruct students on topics such as safe lane changes, passing techniques, rural and interstate driving, road sign identification, merging and various parking skills. Must have knowledge and understanding of current driving laws and be able to follow philosophy and curriculum guidelines. Each student needs 6 hours of driving time. This class is in person and online.
Provide one-one instruction to students in a car, helping them develop essential driving skills.
Teach students how to operate a vehicle safely and follow traffic laws and regulations
Help students understand and practice proper driving techniques, including turning, parking, lane change, speed control, and using mirrors.
Evaluate Studentâ??s driving skills throughout the course, providing feedback on areas of strength and improvement.
Track and document student progress, including completed hours and driving milestones.
Administer written and practical driving tests to assess knowledge and driving competency.
Ensure all safety standards and protocols are followed during behind-the-wheel instruction, including the use of seat belts, proper vehicle maintenance, and state safety standards.
Monitor and enforce the use of appropriate driver education materials and vehicles.
Coordinate with students and their parents/guardians to schedule behind-the-wheel sessions.
Communicate with parents about studentsâ?? progress and any issues related to their driving skills or behaviors.
Stay up to date with state regulations and requirements regarding driverâ??s education.
Maintain a professional and calm demeanor while addressing any behavioral concerns in the car.
Manage studentsâ?? emotions and stress levels during driving lessons, especially when learning new or difficult skills.
Compete required documentation for studentsâ?? progress, including the number of driving hours completed and any incidents or evaluations during lessons.
Report any issues with students to school administrators or driving school management.
Have previous experience in driving instruction or teaching
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with teenagers, patience, and an in-depth understanding of Iowa Traffic Laws and driving practices.
Must pass a criminal background check to work with minors.
All Candidate must but at least 25 years old.
Receive a certificate of completion with the Iowa Department of Transportation
Completion of the online â??behind-the-wheel coursework.

The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.
