Ophthalmic Educator

Nebraska Medicine is seeking an Ophthalmic Educator to lead the development and implementation of training programs for Ophthalmic Assistants and related roles. This position requires a highly self-driven and motivated individual to enhance staff competency, ensure adherence to industry standards, and promote ongoing professional development within the team. Schedule Details:

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week (Exempt)

  • Monday - Friday

Duties: Ophthalmic Educator

Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate processes to meet the educational, development and competency needs of Ophthalmic Assistants (OA), Certifed Ophthalmic Assistants (COA), and Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT, and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologists (COMT), through effective use of a variety of learning activities. Align activities with programs and processes that standardized functions for OAs. Training OAs in accordance to standards established by accredited agencies (ie The Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

Required Qualifications: Ophthalmic Educator

  • Minimum of three years current applicable clinical experience in a health care setting required.

  • Associate's degree in an applicable field

  • Previous experience with training, precepting, or teaching others

  • Demonstrated ability to plan development activities that impact positive outcomes and performance.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and collaborate with others required.

  • Ability to solve complex problems through a well-ordered approach required.

  • Knowledge of systems and change theory, individual, and group behaviors, teaching and learning principles, and research outcomes required.

  • Ability to balance and prioritize diverse clinical and leadership responsibilities required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).

Preferred Qualifications: Ophthalmic Educator

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field

  • Master's in applicable field

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, and/or Certified Opthalmic Technician, and/or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
